Christchurch is the Garden City, and its bees have the run of it. Hagley Park, the Botanic Gardens, the Ōtākaro Avon corridor, tens of thousands of private gardens and the Port Hills behind. The result is a honey with more botanical variety in it than almost any rural site could offer. Light, elegant and different every season.

The Garden City Character

City honey surprises people. A farm is often a monoculture. A city is not: it is thousands of gardeners all planting different things, flowering in sequence from August to April. The nectar diversity available to an urban hive frequently beats a rural one, and you can taste it. This honey is layered, light and floral, with a linden-tea quality running underneath.

Why It’s Unique: A Different Honey Every Year

Because it is built from a whole city’s flowering calendar, this honey is a genuine seasonal vintage. A cold spring, a wet December, a good year for the limes, and it shifts. We do not blend it flat. What is in the jar is what Ōtautahi gave us that summer.

Perfect Pairings

Morning Staples: On toast, crumpets, or stirred into porridge. A true everyday honey.

In Tea: Its linden and blossom notes are made for this. Earl Grey, green tea, or a plain black tea with lemon.

Fresh Cheese and Fruit: Over ricotta with peaches, or a fresh goat cheese with walnuts.

Baking: Light enough for delicate work. Honey cakes, madeleines, baklava syrups and glazes for fruit tarts.
